Christopher Newton

Biography

Christopher Newton is a 20-year-old violinist, currently studying with Steven Wilkie at the Royal Northern College of Music. After receiving a U grade in A Level Music Composition, he made it his aim to prove himself as a composer, and spent two years studying composition with Joshua Brown and Rosemary Broadbent at the Junior RNCM, winning the Becker Prize for his composition “Here I Am.” Also a gifted pianist and wildlife artist, Christopher is a highly talented individual.

As a violinist, Christopher has led and performed with several orchestras including the Yorkshire Young Sinfonia, Sinfonia Borealis, City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, JRNCM Symphony Orchestra and Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, performing alongside world-class musicians such as Stephen Hough and Ray Chen. In his first year at Junior RNCM, Chris won the Anthony Ridley Prize for Orchestral and Ensemble playing and was Student of the Year for A Level Music at York College.
